PhD topic: A Participatory Framework for Planning Sustainable Future Cities: Development of an Interactive Decision Support Tool for Participatory Urban Planning in Switzerland

Antje is a research scientist and teaching assistant at the Chair for Information Architecture. She started her PhD studies in 2008 at ETH Zurich with the focus on the definition and development of an interactive decision support tool, to aid in the strategic planning of sustainable future cities. Her main interests in research concentrate on decision-making processes, stakeholder participation, visualization, collaborative environments, geometric urban modeling, urban simulation and sustainable urban planning.

HIT H 32.3, ETH Zurich
PhD topic: Interactive Detection of Urban Heat Islands: A rule-based optimization and city modeling method for the early design stage

Jan Halatsch’s PhD thesis concentrates on the simplification of micro-climate models. Interactive micro-climate evaluation techniques could help significantly in the early design stage to prevent from poor urban planning. A huge contribution is expected by coupling different urban physics models into an integrated rule-based 3D city model that is aware of different climatic scales. Therefore, an existing procedural 3D city modeling process will be extended to include computations for urban physics into an interactive city model. The urban physics calculations will be integrated in a 3D modeling environment, providing instant feedback to the users on the developed models.
